With the advent of video...My Dear that is so true.

With the advent of video recorders even the very early ones that were monsters, various family members started recording the eldest family members, I had an old reel to reel recording and Granny recorded stories that she told me as well as members of her group but because I knew that such recordings could be de-magnetized, I transcribed what they spoke of into notes, for physical reference.

My niece is typing them out more clearly and filing them both as hard copy in a file cabinet, and on a flash drive for reference, which helps me.

Recently I have been recorded by family members because I remember the old stories and what happened to different family members, what makes it more interesting to them is the way I tell the stories, I could make a tragedy also be a comedy. Like the time my Great Aunt was not in her coffin and the funeral parlor was questioning why her son (who was a bit soft in the head) wanted to bury an empty coffin----Very long story which included my Uncle Henry getting stuck behind a steering wheel and had to do the Limbo and crawl out of his daughter’s (my cousin) very small car. To this day I don’t know why he wanted to drive it. He kept yelling (in the funeral parlor parking lot) that the car was a jinx, a Jonah.

And then when my other great-aunt opened the casket she screamed and fainted because there was no body in the casket, and everyone was yelling so Granny used the funeral home’s phone and called her daughter, my Aunt who was a nun and she brought with her Sister Filomena of the Sacred Heart of Jesus who was only 4 ft. 2 inches tall and must have been a 100 years old if she was a day and when she showed up everyone behaved. Even the Priest was scared of Sister Filomena.

My Uncle Henry (who looked like Clint Eastwood gone to seed) went to the funeral director and grabbed the man by the lapels and demanded to know where our Great Aunt was….

All’s well that ended well, it was a mistake that the funeral parlor was hoping to correct (because of my “soft in the head” cousin), with the help and thanks to my Aunt Sister Mary Margaret and Sister Filomena. Sister Filomena could be scary, but I swear when she and my Granny got together they’d laugh about the foibles of human nature.

By the time I got through reciting this story to the family (which recorded it) all the family members were rolling on the floor laughing. I still smile remembering how my Uncle Henry who was skinny, got stuck behind the steering wheel and had to wiggle down and crawl out of my cousins car, still can’t figure out how that happened.

Bright Blessings,
Ms. Q
VooDoo Queenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11009368155195205624noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3400471483592958984.post-52236696811036343202016-08-03T18:05:51.896-07:002016-08-03T18:05:51.896-07:00Thank you my Dear,

It doesn't seem to matter what age you are. I tell older people to get a digital recorder and start telling stories of your life; the good, the bad and the ugly. Leave it for those to remember you and the family history. Your family and those who love you will appreciate hearing your voice after you're gone.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
