The Orion meteor shower and Bowls~~~

Hello Dear Readers,

Do you love Meteor Showers?

I know I do and I get excited about them when the major ones come around but usually I post only information about the major ones when there are TONS of them out there.

But again it depends upon what energy you want to draw from the constellation that they are emanating from.

Right now the Orionids is happening from August 25 to November 19   but the peak time to capture their energy will be on October 22, now if the weather is clear and there’s hardly any moon you’ll be able to see them.

According to Wikipedia The Orionids, is the most prolific meteor shower associated with Halley's Comet. The Orionids are so-called because the point they appear to come from, called the radiant, lies in the constellation Orion, but they can be seen over a large area of the sky. Orionids are an annual meteor shower which last approximately one week in late October. In some years, meteors may occur at rates of 50–70 per hour and is produced by the well-known Halley's Comet

They come from close to the star Betelgeuse which forms one shoulder of the Orion constellation—yes dear Readers,  Betelgeuse pronounced Beetle juice but please don’t say that 3 times or you’ll be borrowing trouble (if you ever watched the movie).

The Orion constellation is one of the oldest known and most easily identifiable constellation in the heavens thanks to the 3 stars that form Orion’s belt.    Even in today’s over lighted (which we need for safety) cities, on a moonless clear sky we can at least see Orion’s belt.  As a matter of fact the constellation of Orion is one that can be clearly seen all over the world, but this constellation (which I’ll refer to as “He”) always appears (in the Northern Hemisphere) around the end of October signaling the end of the harvest season and the beginning of Winter or the hunting season, it’s reversed in the Southern Hemisphere but the meaning is the same.

The legend of Orion the Hunter is somewhat obscured as he appears to be a combination of many mythical Hunter-Heroes from many different areas including Gilgamesh, and the Egyptian god Set, and as an African Rainmaking God,

Orion is very useful as an aid to locating other stars. For example by extending the line of the Belt southeastward, Sirius the Dog Star can be found and no hunter should be without his hunting dog.

But sailors knew that with the appearance of Orion especially in November, (Northern Hemisphere) stormy seas would appear and fishing would be dangerous, since according to Greek legend Orion was the offspring of Poseidon the sea god.

In Sandra Kynes’ book “Star Magic,”  she gives an excellent exploration as well as a new interpretations of the constellations that is important for 21st century practioners and believes that constellation is not only the male Orion but also Artemis, the huntress, based upon her research that among (and I quote) “early Arab astronomers saw this constellation as a female figure they called al-Jauza. Also, the name of the star Bellatrix, located on the star figure's left shoulder, is Latin, meaning "the female warrior." One other point is that the hour-glass shape of the constellation has a more feminine appearance.”

There is more interesting astronomical information about the constellation Orion but I suggest that you read up about “Him” as a constellation from Wikipedia and if you are interested in doing workings with the stars in mind then by all means purchase Ms. Kynes book “Star Magic” for your magical reference shelf.

So what does the Orion constellation and its meteor showers have to do with “the work”?   Well it depends upon if you are doing it from either a Wicca, witchcraft or conjure view point.    By looking upon it as either a male or preferably, as a female warrior figure.

Then collecting charged water from this particular shower would be viewed as being used as water for empowerment again to help overcome obstacles.  But since it also appears at it’s peak during the latter part of October (it’s peak will be Oct. 22)  and October is when the veil between the two worlds of matter and spirit are becoming its thinnest,  you should put out a large amount of water, for two reasons, one to use in ritual work or spell workings for empowerment and 2nd the larger amount of water to use in scrying, to make a floating moving magical mirror to scry for images.

It’s best to have a bowl that is black or a clear bowl that you put on a black non-reflective cloth, pour the Orion/Artimis/al-Jauza meteor water into it, meditate viewing into the water much as one would view into a crystal ball or a solid scrying mirror,  to see into the future, past lives, current happenings, it maybe the image of someone or something associated with them, it could be a feeling or an inspiration, or the sense of not doing a certain form of magic for what purpose you have in mind.    Then when done, drink a glass of plain tap water to break the connection and then pour (using a funnel-plastic) back into the jar that you keep the water in.   I suggest large mason jars to make it easier,  two at least.

So this meteor water has several uses, in doing “the work” it can be used for empowering yourself or one that needs empowerment, or since it is a hunter constellation to track down and bring to account someone who has done you wrong, or make their lives “stormy”, as well as a use for scrying as a liquid, living mirror.   This water should be kept in a dark cabinet or covered with a dark cloth to not lose its stormy ability.

On a different note:  About Bowls------

I have mentioned bowls frequently, and it’s true we do find ourselves using bowls for different things,  in the ritual cleansing of the hands I suggest a white or blue bowl, in scrying I suggest a black bowl,   when one is mixing powders or dust you’ll be using bowls as well.

It really is important to keep your “working” bowls separate from the ones you’d use doing your real world cooking and eating.   Always make sure they are separated, the one for ritual washing is never the one for scrying, and the one for mixing powders/dust is also separate.   With the ones for mixing powders/dust/herbs you may need several of them but after each use wash them with lemon scented dish-washing liquid, with the two previous ones just allow them to dry out after their use.

If you cannot find bowls in those colors then the clear bowls made by Anchor Hocking (USA company) or whatever company in your country that makes them, will work just as well but it’s too easy to mix them up, so to make sure put each bowl into or wrapped with a different color cloth, white for washing, black scrying and brown for herbs/powders etc.

It makes it much easier instead of saying all the time “No NOT that one”.

Bright Blessings,
Ms. Q

A meteor Shower this weekend~~~

Hello Dear Readers,

Well I did say that August was going to be a busy month and it is.

It seems I forgot that we are also having the Perseid Meteor shower which is starting today!

You can see I'm excited about this.

The showers will run on August 11, 12 and 13.

The peak of the showers will be about 1 a.m. on August 12  PDT at least I think I'm right about the time---but check on the internet for where you live.

Part of the problem about viewing the showers this time is that we have a waning Gibbous Moon which is about 77 to 85% brightness for the weekend, so it may make viewing a bit hard.

Now you know I'm big on spiritually charged waters so if you want meteor shower charged waters this would be a good time.

Now why is this shower called the Perseid?

Well it appears to originate from the constellation Perseus, and I know Who was Perseus?  Perseus was the legendary founder of Mycenae and of the Perseid dynasty of Danaans, was, alongside Cadmus (founder and first king of Thebes) and Bellerophon the slayer of the Chimera, the greatest Greek hero and slayer of monsters before the days of Heracles.

From Wikipedia--- Perseus in Greek mythology, "Perseus was the son of DanaĆ«, who was sent by King Polydectes to bring the head of Medusa the Gorgon—whose visage caused all who gazed upon her to turn to stone—as a wedding gift. Perseus slew Medusa in her sleep, and Pegasus and Chrysaor appeared from her body. Perseus continued to the realm of Cepheus whose daughter Andromeda was to be sacrificed to Cetus the sea monster.

Perseus rescued Andromeda from the monster by killing it with his diamond sword.[8] He turned Polydectes and his followers to stone with Medusa's head and appointed Dictys the fisherman king. Perseus and Andromeda married and had six children. In the sky, Perseus lies near the constellations Andromeda, Cepheus, Cassiopeia (Andromeda's mother), Cetus, and Pegasus."

So why collect that water, well if you need courage to overcome monsters of any kind this kind of water used in spells or rituals would be the kind you'd need.   And since it is a waning Gibbous Moon, waning moons are for banishing so it would work to help banish your fears.

If you are big on star gazing then for the next three nights it should be fun, pack a nighttime picnic dinner and if it's chilly where you are be sure to include hot coffee or hot chocolate.

Bright Blessings,
Ms. Q

Using the Liquid Fire of the Perseids

Hello everyone,

I’m still pulling myself together and I will get to the rest of your questions that you have asked as soon as I can, but I needed to answer this one since we are now experiencing the Perseid Meteor shower right now.

I got a question from one of my blog readers asking about meteor showers and this person wrote:
“Dear Ms. Q,
I read that we are going to be having a really big meteor shower in August, is there anything magical that we can do with this?”

Well yes we can, meteor showers happen fairly frequently, about a year or two ago a meteor crash into a lake in Russia and caused earthquake conditions when it passed over head, I don’t know if geologists found it, but it is considered by the ancients to be something mystical, something coming from the heavens, from the Gods or God if you will, and a meteorite stone was considered sacred.

We seem to have a meteor shower at least once a month

January-- Quadrantids,  Around the March equinox … fireball season, April-- Lyrids, May Eta --Aquarids, July Delta --Aquarids, August-- Perseid, October--Draconids, October--- Orionids, November ---South Taurids and North Taurids  and Leonids and rounding off in December Geminids.

They take their names from the constellation where they appear to emanate from.

Even though we have several meteor showers throughout the year the Geminids, the Leonids, the Draconids,  to my Granny the Perseids was considered by her to be the most potent.  Maybe because we’d see a lot of meteors with the Perseids, perhaps because it was/is more showy.

Either way Granny would put out several bottles of spring water and at least 6 white candles to “absorb” the energy of the Perseid meteor shower.   She’d call it “Liquid Fire”, now this is to not be confused with flammable liquids like gasoline or kerosene or even hard whisky or moonshine which one of my uncles use to do during Prohibition (and the police knew about it but his stuff was clean, not poisonous and it was mostly for local indulgence, ah yes a few of those cops on the beat would stop by my uncle’s place and ask if he had any medical liquid to take care of the aches and pains---well I better stop going down memory lane)

So why are they called the Perseids? Because they appear to fall from the constellation Perseus. The name derives in part from the word Perseides (a term found in Greek mythology referring to the sons of Perseus. (Wikipedia; Perseids).  In Greek mythology, Perseus was known as a hero. He slayed the gorgon Medusa and rescued the beautiful Andromeda from the sea monster Cetus. Perseus took the head of Medusa to Olympus to become the powerful shield of Goddess Athena. Perseus was believed to ride the magnificent winged horse, Pegasus. Perseus was also the son of Zeus and a mortal woman named DanaĆ«, whom he impregnated while in the form of a shower of gold – similar to the shower of fiery gold that will cross the skies on those nights.

Legend has it that Perseid Meteor shower is literally magical fire and this concept continued into the Catholic beliefs in regards to St. Lawrence.   Some Catholics refer to the Perseids as the "tears of Saint Lawrence" who was burnt alive,  he defied authority and for that he was put on a grill and slowly roasted to death, so it is believe that his spirit is suspended in the sky but returning to earth once a year.  It was and is not unusual for the early Christians to grab onto a pagan idea of belief and add it to their belief that is why when someone tells me they are a Catholic or Christian Witch (not Wiccan) I don’t dispute it.

Even the Eastern Pomo Indian (North Central California) thought meteors were fire dropping from heaven.  And some Native American Shamans if they found a piece of a meteor would keep it as a powerful magical charm.

Many ancient Greek and Roman temples would have a meteor rock embedded in their altars since it came from the heavens there for it came from the Gods, much like the Catholic Church would have relics of a Saint embedded into their altars to sanctify the church.

As I said my Granny preferred the Perseids because it would show up better and also because it occurred during the hot month of August (Northern Hemisphere) or astrological sign of  Leo (not to be confused with the Lionied meteor shower), there for to her it was water as Sacred Fire in liquid form for blessing (but not for getting burned).

How she used it depended upon the magical working she was doing,  I know one time when I was a little girl I was afraid of a bully at school, so my Granny bought a stuffed animal in the shape of a dog, and she blessed it with the Meteor water, to give it fiery protective energy, she named it “Wolf” and ever since then that bully never bothered me, although I had to leave “Wolf” at home when I went to school he was with me the rest of the time, Granny told me to think of him in his most fierce look, and if the bully came near me I thought of “Wolf” and I’d be left alone.   I still have “Wolf” he’s a bit worn out with some bare spots but he sits next to me on my nightstand and continues to protect me.   Later on I found out that my spirit animal is the wolf.

So she used it to infuse “life” into something inanimate to become a guardian, she also would sprinkle a bit of this water at all four corners of her property to keep away any kind of fiery accidents, which nearly happened,  one day one of  Granny’s next door neighbor’s house caught on fire for some reason and the wind was blowing the flames towards my Granny’s house, but it never caught fire, now I’m not saying that this worked but on a spiritual level it certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Wishing Candles
Now about the Wishing Candles, Granny based this on the belief that if you saw a falling star (ie meteor) you should make a wish on it,  Granny would put out at night no less than 6 white candles and use the same Perseid Meteor Shower energy of these “falling Stars” to infused the candles with wishing energy, the candles would be white, that way by using herbs or oils for the type of wish you want the candles “falling star wishing energy” would be directed to that wish.  She would then bring the candles in just before dawn, so the sun’s rays would not soften the candle as well as “wash away” the energy.

Now when is the Meteor showers occurring, well it’s happening right now till about August 22, but the height of the showers which is the best time to put out your candles and water is between August 11 to the 12th being the highest peak time.

Best way to see them, well a very clear night,  between midnight and just before dawn, don’t bother using a telescope or binoculars because they will be like fireflies quick and fleeting, look up on the internet the Perseid Meteor shower to find out what location to look at to see them and the best time for viewing.   With luck you may even see an “earth grazer” which is a meteor that comes so close to the earth that it leaves a shimmering trail of sparks.

The holy day of prayer for St. Lawrence happens to be on August 10th, which coincides with the meteor shower.

Should you happen to be able to purchase a tiny piece of a meteorite then spiritually speaking (even a tiny piece) meteorites are considered a gift from another world. Many cultures consider the Meteorite to be sacred and are considered to have supernatural powers. It provides introspection to the thoughts of enlightened beings and promotes the reality of all that is. Meteorite is an excellent stone for walk-ins; providing them with a stabilizing effect with respect to unfamiliar behavior patterns and new environments, because most meteorites are made of nickel and iron it has serious grounding properties.

Associations:
Associated Crystals: Iron pyrite, hematite and lodestone.
    Candle Color: Gold.
    Chakra: All.
Element: Spirit but primarily Fire and Earth
Flowers & Plants: Lotus, madonna lily and papyrus.
Herbs - Incenses - Oils: Blessed thistle, frankincense, hyssop and myrrh.
    Planet: All - The universe.

Metaphysical Properties & Uses:
Do not use a meteorite on:
Animals: Meteorite should not be used with animals.
Children: Meteorite should not be used with children.
Since most meteorites are composed mostly of nickel and iron it would be to heavy an element to use on children and animals.  This is to not be confused with tektites.
  It can be used for:
Health & Healing: Meteorite can be used for distance healing but is also very good for helping addictions, bad habits and phobias.
Home: It will help to protect your home. Meteorite will also help you with any life transformation.
Protection: It is protective against fire. In modern times it has also been used to protect against bombings and hijackings.
Psychic: Meteorite is a magical stone containing unique energies. It is very good for channeling, dream work and meditation. It will also help astrologers to be more accurate.
It Is The Stone Of: Astrologers and healers. Talisman for all.
Work: It will help protect your workplace.
Keep it in a red or gold color bag so it won’t get lost.

Even if you do not put out water or candles to gather the “liquid fire” just seeing this outer space event is something that everyone should see at least once in their life.

Bright Blessings,
Ms.  Q

Slowly coming out of depression~~~~

Dear Readers,

This is Ms. Q.

Thank you all for your good wishes of sympathy on the loss of my family member, it has hit us emotionally harder than expected.

Only now am I finally slowly climbing out of the abyss of grief.

There were moments of clarity where I felt much better and was able to answer a few questions, and then something would happen and send me right down back into that black hole of loss and emptiness.

The old Victorians had the right idea that mourning should take a year, a year of deep mourning and then a 2nd year of lighter mourning, when things begin to be lighter but the loss is still felt.

In this 21st century I've encountered people who seem to think a person should get over it in a week and get right back into the "swing of things"------ If they only knew, if they really only knew.

With all the deaths that are happening here in the USA, and overseas, in Nice, France most recently, people should understand it can take years to come to terms with grief, you don't get over it, you only come to terms with it.

Then all you can do to fill the hole left in you by your loss, is to mentally and emotionally plant a rose for remembrance, to release the butterfly of spirit, and let it soar into the heavens, to look up at the stars and although they are suns with planets revolving around them, so far distant, you can't help but feel that on one of those planets revolving around one of those star/suns there is life, and it goes on.

And perhaps from those star/suns the spirit of your loved one is looking at you so many light years away and is thinking of you as well.

My niece is taking this hard as well, and we are being supportive of each other, knowing when to give a little space, when to speak, when to not speak and let the other work out their own thoughts.

For those of you who have posted questions to me, like more than a month ago, I have not forgotten you,  and I want to answer your questions clearly, with a clear and thoughtful mind and heart.

And I hope to start doing it soon, one question at a time, one clear focus at a time.

To help me get my mental focus back, I've been working on a post about the Perseid Meteor Shower
which is happening Now to August 23!!   I call this Fire Energy, and for those of you who collect, or gather energy water, you should do it at night when the meteors are showing,  I understand the high point will be August 12 through 14, but depending upon cloud conditions start collecting it now especially if your sky area is clear.

In my next blog post I'll explain why this should be added to you collection of sacred waters.

Blessings to all of you for your kind thoughts and your patience,

Ms. Q
